Mitochondria targeted diagnostic and photodynamic therapy: what are the recent advances?

Targeting Mitochondria 2017 Dr. Sabyasachi Chakrabortty

During the 8th World Congress on Targeting Mitochondria 2017, Dr. Sabyasachi Chakraborthy from Max Planck Institute, Germany will present his work on "Mitochondria targeted diagnostic and photodynamic therapy".

According to Dr Chakraborthy: "Subcellular-specific bio-imaging tools, diagnostics, and therapeutics have emerged as important strategies in recent biomedical research where the preparation of novel molecular design is very crucial. A bioinspired multifunctional albumin derived polypeptide macromolecules, which efficiently directing particles to mitochondria to ultimately probe mitochondrial dynamics and vitality inside living cells; will be presented. Simultaneously, mitochondria-targeted photosensitization represents a promising approach in photodynamic therapy. In this talk, a macromolecular photosensitizer with multiple copies of mitochondria-targeting groups and ruthenium complexes that display the highest phototoxicity towards several cancerous cell lines will be discussed."
